In a May 15 Facebook post, state Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) highlighted Peace Officers Memorial Day.
"Every May 15, we pay tribute to the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty," the legislator wrote. "Today on Peace Officers Memorial Day we remember these brave souls who put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities."
In a May 5 Facebook post, after attending the state's police officer memorial ceremony in Springfield, Haas also took to Facebook to reflect on the event, according to the Grundy Reporter.
"One of the fallen officers being honored was Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic of Bradley Police Department and a member of the 79th District community," Haas wrote on Facebook. "We will never forget the sacrifices our police officers make in the line of duty and we are forever grateful for their dedication to protecting our friends, family, loved ones and communities."
The Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee listed the names of 2022 honorees who were remembered on May 5. There were 11 officers on that list.
According to WIFR.com, hundreds of police officers from around the state, attended in uniform. Gov. JB Pritzker, Lieutenant Gov. Julianna Stratton, Secretary of State Jesse White, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, and others also attended the May 5 ceremony.
