The Illinois State Rifle Association is holding an Intro to Defensive Pistol class May 27-28.

The Intro to Defensive Pistol class will be held at the ISRA range 1589 N 7000 W Road Bonfield. It costs $500. Interested individuals can contact Andy Kemp at 208-771-3413, via email at andy1911@imaxmail.net, or visit www.midwesttraininggroup.net

“This intensive two-day program introduces the new or novice #shooter to combat handgun #training," ISRA said in a press release. “The program focuses on firearms safety issues, marksmanship basics, various shooting positions, speed reloads, drawing from a holster, and more. This is designed for the shooter who has never had formal firearms training or would like to review the fundamentals. Emphasis is placed on trigger control, sight alignment, accuracy, and safety. 500 rounds. No prerequisite is required, and you do not have to be an ISRA member to attend."

With crime on the rise in Chicago over the past few years many Illinoisans have armed themselves. There are over 450,000 concealed carry license holders in Illinois. CBS Chicago reported on the rise in concealed carry license requests from Illinoisans.

"There's no question people feel unsafe," Dan Eldridge, owner of Maxon's Shooter's Supplies in Des Plaines, told CBS.

At the end of 2022, he noted a 15% increase in enrollment in CCL and pistol training classes.

In December, a FOID card and concealed carry license holder returned gunfire in Chicago’s Loop in the early morning hours. In that incident, a CCL holder shot two men who appear to have been trying to steal his car.

Gun owners just recently held Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day on March 29 at the state Capitol building in Springfield. The group protested a gun ban of over 170 types of commonly owned types.

“The Illinois State Rifle Association and others are suing the State of Illinois over its unconstitutional ban on most semi-automatic firearms. Please take the day off and attend this event,” ISRA said in a press release, Prairie State Wire reported.
