City of Momence City Council met Oct. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Huddelston, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna present.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Lesyna made motion to approve the minutes of October 2. Alderman Doody seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Huddelston, Clark, Fordahl, Cook and Lesyna voting yes. Alderman Temple passed.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

Alderman Doody made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Huddelston seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Huddelston, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes.

CITIZENS FOROM – Howard Meyerberg concerns on Mill Street. Cars are speeding on Mill Street, requesting a traffic cam. Cars are doing 40+ mph, concerned someone will get hurt. Chief is looking into a speed trailer. Also requested duck crossing signs for Mill Street. Mayor indicated that City cannot do that, every street would have to have the signs.

Steve Gross – December 2 Downtown Christmas Gathering. He will return with specific information

Aldermanic – Licensing ordinance – changes made for fiscal to calendar year. Added non for profit, proof of insurance will be added – 3.1.2. Daycare 3.8.4 supposed to register with city annually (this isn’t happening)

Next meeting, Chief to bring up any concerns from a legal standpoint.

Contractors from outside of towns have a Kankakee County license which proves that have insurance. This ordinance will pertain to local businesses only.

Alderman Doody – Budget and Finance meeting 11/6, 7:15 PM

Department heads to work on budget ASAP

Department Heads – Scott – digging to start in front of El Rio, Vermont Street – need a tree cut down. Phones went out at City Hall; a wire had burnt. Ruder Communications was called. They were able to get a phone working, but the system needs to be updated. It is 25 years old, very out of date. If the city has the system updated, could save money on the bill. The city is still under contract with the server, this needs to be checked into to see if can get out to the contract. Mayor asking to find out about current company AT&T

Chief – had work done on the evidence safe, cost of $200.00

Working on the price of a speed trailer

Working on the request for extra patrols on Mill Street

Working on business info for each business in city, wants to attach to the ordinance. New FB page is up and operational

Crisis planning meeting at the high school

Vandrunen still looking at purchasing a Polaris for the police department

Treasurer report – Pepper indicated no treasurer tonight. She is balanced through August, working on September.

MAYORAL REPORT – Discuss/vote on trick or treat hours, - 4PM – 7PM on October 31. Alderman Clark made motion to approve. Alderman Huddelston seconded the motion along with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Huddelston, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes. Chief made mention that no sex offenders are allowed to do trick or treat.

Bordertown Hauntings October 28, 12PM – 4PM, requesting closure of East and West Washington from 12PM – 4PM. Alderman Doody made motion to approve. Alderman Huddelston seconded the motion along with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Huddelston, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes.

Mayor requested a few council members to help with handing out candy during the Bordertown Hauntings. Alderman Fordahl and City Clerk Christy Ritter both volunteered.

Mayor wanted to congratulate Chief Siemson on successfully completing his certification – certified police chief. Chief Siemson is the only one in Kankakee County.

Alderman Cook made motion to adjourn. Alderman Huddelston seconded the motion Aldermen Doody, Vela, Huddelston, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes
