Colton Ekhoff, the current Kankakee County Board Member for District 2 and a candidate for County Auditor, has garnered a significant endorsement from his colleague, County Board Member Roger "Bones" Hess. The importance of this endorsement was underscored by Ekhoff, who represents the Momence area on the board.
“I am thankful for the support of so many people including my fellow Momence area board member Roger ‘Bones’ Hess,” Ekhoff said in a Facebook post.
In his endorsement statement, Hess voiced confidence in Ekhoff's capabilities to effectively serve as Kankakee County Auditor. He emphasized that "Colton Ekhoff embodies all of the traits and qualities necessary of a public servant and will execute the duties of Kankakee County Auditor with integrity, leadership, organization, and transparency." Hess also expressed pride in endorsing Ekhoff and urged voters to follow suit.
Ekhoff's District 2 covers the entirety of the City of Momence, excluding the west side of Elm to the Junior High. It also extends to Sumner Township from 11000 East to 5000 East, spanning from County Line Road to 6000 North, according to his website. In addition to serving District 2, Ekhoff holds the position of County Finance Committee Chairman.
The primary election is slated for March 19. This will pit Ekhoff against incumbent Auditor Jacob M. "Jake" Lee in a race that could determine future leadership in the Auditor’s office and provide voters with an alternative vision for Kankakee County. As reported by Kankakee Times earlier, Ekhoff's campaign slogan is "Action not absence," reflecting his dedication towards proactive and accountable governance.
