One of the first things Chuck Steele did after he was sworn in as the mayor of Momence recently was to work toward getting the word out: Momence offers a charming, historic community.
Steele updated the home page of the city’s website with a message promoting Momence’s history, which stretches to 1834, as well as its unique sights and friendly residents. He also welcomed the Momence community to join him and the city’s other elected officials at City Council meetings, which take place at City Hall on West Washington Street on the first and third Mondays of the month, beginning at 7:30 pm.
A Momence native, Steele spent a decade on the City Council before being elected mayor. He owns Steel Collision and Repair, which he has run for 15 years after working with cars for most of his live. At 13, he joined Case Motor Sales and stayed until 1990, when he joined State Farm as a physical damage appraiser.
Steele and his wife, Dana, have four children.
