Beecher baseball, softball stars earn annual honors

Taylor Johnson and Andrew Olszewski win RVC players of the year | Beecher Baseball Twitter

Beecher High School classmates Taylor Johnson and Andrew Olszewski have been named River Valley Conference (RVC) 2017 Players of the Year, according to the Daily Journal. 

Softball star Johnson earned the honor after helping her team to the Class 2A state softball title with a 31-7 record. She batted .477, with 10 home runs, 54 RBIs, 54 runs scored, 11 doubles and an on-base percentage of .594.

Olszewski, a baseball star, hit 454, with 11 doubles, two homers, 19 RBIs, 40 runs and 34 stolen bases. The squad won 20 games this year.


Other softball honorees from the area were Gabrielle Lee, Kayla Hon and Alexis Abbate of Beecher; St. Anne stars Brandi Chase and Shelby Davis; Gardner-South Wilmington High School athlete Kira Gleason; and Donovan star Adrienne Adams. 

In baseball, Alex Ranger and Donny Pearson of Beecher, Noah Burling and Alec Blanchette of St. Anne’s, Ethan Schneider and Jake Jarski of Grant Park, Gardner-South Wilmington High School’s Austin Kavanaugh and Braden Marks and Jacob Bruner of Donovan were also honored.
