City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Aug. 3.
A delegation from Cities United, a national organization dedicated to reducing violence in cities among African-American men and boys, will be traveling to Kankakee on Tuesday and participating in a community forum discussing local concerns about public safety in the Kankakee region. The event is open to the public and will include comments from former Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges.
On Wednesday, Mayor Wells-Armstrong and members of Cities United will give an update to local media on Kankakee’s selection to be included in Cities United and the next steps in crafting a public safety plan for Kankakee.
