Village of Chebanse Village Board met Aug. 19.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
Mayor Mathy called the regular Village Board meeting to order at 7:00 pm and announced that the Village would be taping and Kathy Washington from the Advocate would be taking notes.
The following Trustees were present: Trustee Beherns, Trustee Kohler, Trustee Odle, and Trustee Snyder. Trustee Perzee arrived at 7:10 pm. Also present were Mayor Mathy, Clerk Pasel, Attorney Hiatt and James Smith from Maintenance.

REPORTS OF VILLAGE OFFICERS: James stated that he made a slide show of all of the projects that were completed with the summer help, if anyone would like to look at it after the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
HOMECOMING: April asked that everyone look over the schedule of events to make sure we have included everything. She asked that everyone sell their golf cart tickets. At this point, we have the cart paid for so the remaining tickets will strictly be profit.
A motion was made by Trustee Perzee and a second by Trustee Beherns to approve the route and road closures for the color run on Saturday morning at the Homecoming. Vote:

VEHICLES WITH EXPIRED PLATES: Mayor Mathy asked the Board how aggressive they wanted to be with enforcing the Village ordinance on vehicles with expired plates. Certified letters have been sent to the registered owners explaining the process. The Board agreed to have tow stickers placed on the 2 vehicles.
CHAIR LIFT AT THE CIVIC CENTER: Mayor Mathy stated that he was approached by 2 representatives from the History Room concerning the lift being removed. The lift has been broken for 2 years. The cost to fix the lift is $800.00. Mayor Mathy asked the Board if they wanted to fix or replace the lift at this time. James stated that he is eventually going to build a platform. Mayor Mathy stated that he would speak with them.
CREDIT CARD LIMIT INCREASE: A motion was made by Trustee Beherns and a second by Trustee Snyder to increase the credit card limit on Julie’s card to $3000.00. Vote:

COMMUNICATIONS:
VILLAGE IDENTIFICATION BADGES: Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department has offered to make identification badges for the Village Trustees and employees. They will have the Village of Chebanse logo and all identifying personal information.
2020 CENSUS: Mayor Mathy informed the Board that he met with Jeanine from the Census Bureau concerning the upcoming census. They are asking that the municipalities form a committee to help get the word out about why it is so important for everyone to respond. Jeanine gave several ways that we could help spread the word. She asked if we could put up flyers and use our website to help. There are three different ways to reply to the Census. You can respond by phone, mailing and the website. The website is the preferred method of contact.
